The Sahasra Deepika Inaugural Gala in Washington, D.C. was a successful
and entertaining evening in honor of Sahasra Deepika. One hundred
guests enjoyed inspiring speeches, fine food from Indique Heights,
performances by Rhythmaya (pictured above) and GW Rangeela, a video
presentation and silent and live auction. Among the many auction items
were glittering jewelry, an autographed Alex Ovechkin jersey and signed
U2 guitar, and the opportunity to name the library at Sahasra Deepika.
Many guests generously stepped forward to be "Heroes" and donate
additional amounts to support Sahasra Deepika. Visit our gala page

sponsors, donors, guests and volunteers who made the event special. We
hope to see you this fall at our second annual gala!
Organic Garden's First Harvest

The
children are enjoying the first harvest from our organic garden, which
included spinach, harive (amaranthus), coriander, and methi
(fenugreek)! There are now fifteen types of fruits and vegetables being
grown in the garden. Purna Organics is doing a great job instructing
students and staff at SDI in proper gardening practices. Read more

Earth Watch Activities With HSBC

On
October 31, a dozen executives from HSBC Global Resourcing spent a day
at with the children at Sahasra Deepika Institute, engaging in fun
activities to teach environmental awareness. Guests came from Malaysia,
India, and the U.K. Many thanks to the team at HSBC Global Resourcing
in Bangalore for their assistance in putting together a fabulous
